Due to rain the match was reduced to 20-20 overs. Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first and scored 105 runs losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. After this, under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) rule, South Africa got a target of 121 runs to win, which South Africa achieved without losing any wicket and won by 10 wickets.

Bad start for Sri Lanka, Vishmi Gunaratne’s return brought relief

The Sri Lankan team, who came to bat first, had a disappointing start. Captain Chamari Atapattu returned to the pavilion after scoring only 11 runs. The other opening batsman Vishmi Gunaratne got injured on the personal score of 12 runs and was taken out of the field with the help of a stretcher. However, the delay in the start of the game due to rain gave him a chance to recover and after his return, he played an important inning of 34 runs, which helped the team to some extent.
