1983 World Cup winner Madan Lal has come out in support of Yashasvi Jaiswal and said that the youngster should represent India across formats. The 23-year-old southpaw has failed to break into the white-ball formats and only plays Test cricket.

“If I were a selector, I would never drop him from any format of the game. He is a match-winner who has proved himself. A player like him deserves to play ODIs, T20Is and Test matches. He can win matches single-handedly. Yashasvi is the future of Indian cricket,” he said on the Cricket Predicta TV Show.

In 26 Tests, Jaiswal has scored  2,428 runs at an average of 51.65, with seven hundreds and 12 half-centuries. Jaiswal has played 23 T20Is, amassing  723 runs at an average of 36.15 and a strike rate of over 164.

In the previous IPL season for the Rajasthan Royals, he accumulated 559 runs at an average of 43.00 and a strike rate of almost 160. Jaiswal has played just one ODI for India, making 15 runs. The young batter has competed in  46 List-A matches, posting 1,526 runs at an average of 52.62, with five tons and seven half-centuries.
