Wellington, October 17 (Read News).
Former New Zealand fast bowler Gavin Larsen has once again returned as the selection manager of the team. He has taken this responsibility in place of Sam Wells. Larsen had previously held the same role from 2015 to 2023, after which he worked as performance director at English club Warwickshire.
61-year-old Larsen was recently associated with basketball team Nelson Giants. Now he, along with New Zealand team head coach Rob Walter, will take over the responsibility of team selection for all tours of New Zealand, New Zealand A and New Zealand XI.
On his appointment, Larsson said in an official statement: “It is an honor to return to the Blackcaps and national high performance environment. I am extremely passionate about New Zealand Cricket and it is extremely exciting to have the opportunity to contribute at the highest level once again. I am excited to start work this summer and look forward to contributing to the team’s success.”
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) Chief High Performance Officer Darryl Gibson said Larsen’s experience and understanding of the modern game makes him suitable for the post.
“Gavin’s familiarity with the role and deep understanding of its responsibilities played a key role in his selection. Additionally, his passion, energy and desire to contribute again impressed us,” he said.
It is noteworthy that no change has been made in the selection model. The final decision on team selection will rest with head coach Rob Walter, while Larsen will work closely with him. Larsen will officially assume office on November 3.
