The Indian team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be announced in a day or two. Several players are in direct competition for the limited slots. The wicket-taker’s place is up for grabs, with Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson as the front runners. Pant has his own fan base in the form of the former players, while Samson has performed better than the southpaw in the Indian Premier League 2024.
Sanju has been sensational with the bat and behind the stumps for the table-toppers. RR have already qualified for the playoffs after winning their eighth match against Lucknow Super Giants.
Former India player Harbhajan Singh has labelled the Kerala-based cricketer the number-one choice in the keeper’s role. According to the legendary off-spinner, it would be a grave injustice to Samson if he was left out of the Indian team for the global tournament.
“Sanju Samson is my number one choice as he has been the best Indian performer in this year’s IPL. He is winning matches under challenging situations, and his captaincy is spot on. There is hardly any moment when he has looked under pressure.
“He is playing aggressively and even anchoring the innings when needed. Samson is in full confidence and there is no way you can keep him out. If he doesn’t get a chance, I will be say he has been treated wrongly. I hope the selectors don’t ignore him,” Harbhajan Singh said on Star Sports.
Samson is the second-leading run-scorer in the ongoing season of the cash-rich league. In 9 matches, he has accumulated 385 runs at an average of 77.00 and a strike rate 161.08. Sanju has hit four fifties, 36 fours, and 17 sixes.
