The openers, Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal, have gone on to smash fifties against Australia during the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 clash on October 12.
The duo went on to trouble the Australian bowlers as they failed to break through the defence of the openers.
After being invited to bat first, Indian batters made a decent start but picked up the pace smashing fours and sixes during the game.
Despite trying six bowling options, Australia couldn’t find a opening to require the necessary breakthrough.
The opener duo went on to score 58 runs in the powerplay and reached the 100 run mark in the 19th over. In the meantime, Smriti Mandhana went on to smash her fifty and looked well settled.
Pratika Rawal also followed Mandhana smashing her century as India cross 150 run mark.
However, Smriti Mandhana got dismissed on Sophie Molineux’s delivery in the 25th over. She walked back to dugout on a frustration with 80 runs off 66 deliveries which included 9 fours and 3 sixes.
During the game she also become the first female cricketer to cross 1000 run mark in a calendar year. Mandhana also become the fastest to 5000 ODI runs via innings.
Speaking at the toss, Healy said, “We’re going to bowl. Got dewy last evening while training. Hopefully can slide on the bat. Just one change.”
“Molineux is back and Wareham misses out. Nice to have Soph back. At some point during World Cups, you just need to get what needs to be done and get the win,” added Healy.
“But when you come up against a really good opposition like India, you need to put everything together. My first time back in Vizag since 2011. Should be a great atmosphere. Got a bit of Aussie support. Girls are pumped for that,” concluded Alyssa Healy.
Meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur said, “Pitch looks better than what we had in the last game. Same XI. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. It’s about how you bounce back. We were there in the game for 95 overs, lots of positives for us.”
“They’ve always been important for us. Always been nice, cheering the team day and night. Biggest part in our lives that we’re getting this support,” concluded Harmanpreet Kaur.
