India’s marquee clash with defending champion Australia in Visakhapatnam on Sunday has, unsurprisingly, been sold out. Its next clash with England in Indore is also sold out, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed on Saturday.
While the Women in Blue’s defeat to South Africa drew more than 12,000 people to the ACA-VDCA Stadium here on Thursday, a larger turnout was expected.
“The South Africa match had good momentum, but it was a working day for offices, schools, and colleges.
Rain also impacted turnout,” Sana Satish Babu, Andhra Cricket Association secretary, told Sportstar.“Thankfully, the Australia match, the biggest fixture of the tournament, is on a Sunday. We ensured the ticket price was also reasonable, available for Rs. 100, Rs. 150 and Rs. 250 only,” he added.
Visakhapatnam will host three more matches – South Africa vs Bangladesh (October 13), Australia vs Bangladesh (October 16) and England vs New Zealand (October 26) – and the ACA has made plans to bring in young female cricketers from other districts in the State to watch those games.
“For all the non-India matches, we have made arrangements to bring girls from other districts, hoping that they will get inspired by what they see. Buses for transportation, food for them and their stay will all be taken care of by us,” he stated.
