In the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, England defeated Bangladesh by 4 wickets. Bangladesh scored 178 runs while batting first. In response, England achieved the target thanks to the unbeaten 79 -run innings of Heather Knight. This victory was important for England.
Delhi: The eighth match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 was played between Bangladesh and England at Barsapara Stadium. In the match, England won the toss and decided to bowl first which proved to be completely correct. Bangladesh women’s innings came out to bat first for 178 runs in 49.4 overs. In response, England achieved the target in 46.1 overs and registered a significant victory by 4 wickets.
Bangladesh’s batting was seen struggling from the beginning. Opener Rubya Haider (4) and captain Nigar Sultana (0) were dismissed quickly. Sharmin Akhtar definitely scored 30 runs, but the rest of the batsman failed to play a big innings. Sobhana Mostari (60) scored the most runs and took the team to a respectable score.
Charlie Dean and Sophie Allestone took 2 and 3 wickets respectively, bowling brilliantly. Lesi Smith and Ellis Capies also took 2-2 wickets. The entire Bangladesh team was reduced to 178 runs in 49.4 overs.
England started poorly chasing the target. Wicketkeeper Amy Jones (1) was out for only 6 runs. After this, Tammy Buomont (13) and captain Net Skivor Brant (32) tried to handle the innings. But, at one time the score increased to 103/6 and the match was seen coming to Bangladesh.
However, former captain Heather Knight stood at one end and played a brilliant innings of 79 runs. He, along with Charlie Dean (27*), won England in 46.1 overs. This innings of Knight can prove to be very important in the tournament for England.
Fahima Khatoon took 3 wickets while bowling the best for Bangladesh. Marufa Aktar and Shanjida Meghla also got 1-1 wickets.
With this victory, England have got a significant 2 points and their net run rate has also improved. England is now a table topper, while the Bangladesh team will now have to perform better to return to the next matches.
