Tazmin Brits’ century setup South Africa’s 6-wicket victory against New Zealand

Tazmin Brits slammed a 7th ODI century, helping South Africa Women to secure a 6-wicket victory against New Zealand Women in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 at Indore.

South Africa successfully went on to chase the 232-run target and climbed in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 points table.

After choosing to bat first, Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer opened the innings for New Zealand while Marizanne Kapp opened the bowling attack.

Kapp bagged the wickets of Bates for a golden duck, while Plimmer and Amelia Kerr went on to build the innings slowly as they scored 38 in the powerplay.

Kerr got dismissed for 23 runs by Nadine de Klerk, and with the arrival of Sophie Devine, New Zealand steadily stabilised the innings.

Plimmer, who had a slow innings scoring 31 runs off 68 deliveries, got dismissed by Chloe Tryon.

With Brooke Halliday joined Devine, New Zealand stabilised the innings as they forged an 86-run partnership before Halliday got dismissed for 45 runs.

Their dismissal saw the fall of the New Zealand batting collapse as the batters got dismissed for single-digit scores.

Sophie Devine added 85 runs to the scoreboard before being dismissed by Mlaba as New Zealand lost 7 wickets for 220 runs.

With the dismissal of Jess Kerr, Lea Tahuhu and Eden Carson, New Zealand scored 231 runs with 13 balls remaining.

Unload the bagged Four Wickets, while Marizanne kapp, he is kicking Khaka, Nadine de Klerk and chloe Tryon Bagged one Wicket Each.

Chasing a 232-run target, Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits opened the innings for South Africa while Jess Kerr opened the bowling attack.

Jess Kerr brought the first breakthrough, dismissing Wolvaardt for 14 runs. However, Sune Luus joined Tazmin Brits made a solid partnership, stitching a 179-run partnership which included Brits’ century and Luus’s fifty.

With the dismissal of Tazmin Brits for 101 runs, Luus and Marizanne Kapp helped the side to march towards victory.

Kapp went on to be dismissed for 14 runs, while Anneke Bosch got dismissed for a duck. Sune Luus stood still at the end with an unbeaten 83* runs to post 234 runs and secure 6 6-wicket victory.

Tazmin Brits was named as the Player of the Match. Speaking on the post-match presentation, “It feels great. I’m glad that we could pull this one through. We definitely needed it after the first game.”

(On becoming the fastest woman to hit 7 ODI centuries, surpassing Meg Lanning) “Funny enough, I’m not one for records, but when you mention Meg Lanning, I’m glad I’m above that one. As long as you just win the games, then I’m all good. I don’t actually know,” added Brits.

“I’m just backing myself a bit more. I’m trying to be as positive as I can. We actually had a lot of batting camps, and I think that definitely helped. I’m trying to expand my batting a bit more and not to be one-dimensional,” concluded Tazmin Brits.

South Africa Women will be playing their next match against India Women on October 09 at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.
