Tristan Stubbs unleashed a breathtaking onslaught on Luke Wood during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 showdown between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday (April 27). In a display of sheer power and skill, Stubbs dismantled Wood’s bowling, plundering an astonishing 26 runs in a single over.
On the first delivery of the 17th over, Wood attempted a wide yorker, but Stubbs, displaying remarkable agility, managed to adjust his position and lofted the ball up and over the infield for a boundary. Undeterred, Wood delivered a full ball outside off-stump on the next delivery, but Stubbs adeptly paddle-flicked it fine to find the boundary once again.
The onslaught continued as Wood pitched another full delivery outside off, aiming to outfox Stubbs with the length, only to be outsmarted as Stubbs deftly opened the bat face and reverse-ramped the ball over the third man boundary for a spectacular six. With each delivery, Stubbs showcased his mastery over the bowler, including a reverse scoop over short third off a yorker-length delivery.
Stubbs’s display of brute force was evident on the fifth delivery as he dispatched a short ball to bisect the deep midwicket and long-on fielders for another boundary. The final blow came on the sixth delivery, as Wood delivered a half-tracker begging to be punished, and Stubbs obliged by sending it soaring over the deep midwicket fence.
Stubbs’s heroics didn’t stop there, as he continued to dazzle with an unbeaten 48 off just 25 balls during the death overs. His explosive innings, complemented by young Jake Fraser-McGurk‘s scorching 27-ball 84, propelled Delhi to a mammoth score of 257/4, marking their highest-ever score in the history of the IPL.
