Delhi: The Indian cricket team will play the ODI series of three matches against Australia from 19 October. Prior to this visit, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Team India, in which the biggest change has been about the captaincy. Young batsman Shubman Gill has been given the command of the ODI team, while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be part of the team as a player.

Gill’s first statement

After receiving the captaincy, Shubman Gill gave his first statement in the video shared by the BCCI. He said, “Our biggest target is the ODI Cup to be held in South Africa in 2027. We will get a chance to play about 20 ODIs before that tournament. In such a situation, it will be our endeavor to take our preparations forward by looking at every series in the same direction.”

He further said, “The captaincy of the ODI team is an honor for me. I hope to live up to this responsibility and reach the team to new heights.”

Rohit and Kohli will remain as players in the team

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been included in the 15 -member squad declared for this ODI series against Australia. However, this time they will not take the field as a captain or vice -captain, but as a player.
