Delhi: The decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to make Shubman Gill the new captain of the ODI team has created a stir in the cricket world. After the sideline of former captain Rohit Sharma, who gave two ICC trophies to Team India, many veterans have questioned the decision of the selectors. Atul Vasan said – ‘This is a mature decision’

Former Team India fast bowler Atul Vasan has supported the decision to make Shubman Gill the captain. In a conversation with IANS, he said, “I think it’s a very intelligent decision. Gill plays in three formats and performing brilliantly. It shows the maturity of the selectors. Rohit and Virat have given a lot to the country, but now is the time for new players to take responsibility.”

He added, “This decision is exactly the same as being entrusted to the baton from one generation to another. Rohit and Virat are experienced and mature players. I am sure they will also welcome this change, because now they can enjoy playing openly without any pressure in this stage of their career.”

‘Gill will get confidence’

Vasan said that the presence of veterans like Rohit and Virat in the team will be confident for Gill. He said, “Senior players like Rohit and Virat in the team will be very beneficial for Gill. His experience will help Gill to learn and develop into captain.”
