Agarkar called it a strategic decision as India couldn’t afford to take three spinners with Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar already in the squad.
It seems Ravindra Jadeja’s ODI career is over as selectors dropped him for the ODI series against Australia. He was a part of the squad that won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, but the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee didn’t consider him.
Jadeja has performed consistently for the Men in Blue in recent years, but he will not represent the Indian National Cricket Team in the three ODIs Down Under.
Agarkar called it a strategic decision as India couldn’t afford to take three spinners with Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar already in the squad.
“We can’t take two left-arm spinners to Australia. Jadeja is already in the scheme of things, but there is always competition for places. He is not out of contention. He was there in the Champions Trophy squad as we needed extra spinners over there,” Agarkar said.
“We can take only one left-arm spinner to maintain the balance in the team with Washington and Kuldeep in the team. He is a part of the plans because he is so good and what he offers as an all-rounder. Jadeja is also a good fielder. It is just a three-match series, and you can’t take everyone. He missed out at the moment, and there is nothing more to it,” he added.
Jadeja has been a top performer across formats in international cricket. In the concluded first Test against the West Indies, he was named the Player of the Match for scoring a hundred and taking four wickets. In his previous ODI assignment in the Champions Trophy, he picked up five wickets at an average of 4.35.
