A solid fifties from Amanjot Kaur and Deepti Sharma has helped the Indian women to post a 269 runs against Sri Lanka in the opener match of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 played on September 30 at Guwahati.
The duo’s partnership played a crucial role in stabilising the innings, putting the side in a strong position in a rain-affected game, which was reduced to a 47-over game.
Batting first, India made a slow start, scoring only 43 runs in 10 overs for a wicket. Smriti Mandhana lost her wicket to Udeshika for 8 runs. However, Harleen Deol and Pratika Rawal went on to forge a decent partnership.
After the end of 10 overs, rain stopped the game and and was reduced to a 48-over game.
With Pratika Rawal lost her wicket to Inoka for 37 runs, Harleen Deol and Harmanpreet Kaur joined hand aiming to stabilise the innings.
However, the disaster came in the 26th over where Harleen lost her wicket to Inoka in the first ball.
Inoka Ranaweera did not stop as she picked the wicket of Jemimah Rodrigues in the very next ball for a golden duck. On the verge of hattrick, she went on to bowl her third delivery of the over.
However, she went after Kaur in the fifth delivery dismissing for 21 runs and completed her over with three wickets leaving India with last five wickets for 121 runs.
With the dismissal of Richa Ghosh for 2 runs, Deepti Sharma and Amanjot Kaur went on to forge a 103-run partnership reviving the side from the mini collapse.
Amanjot Kaur who is playing her first World Cup game went on to score 57 runs anchoring the innings.
Deepti Sharma also went on to smash her fifty before being dismissed by Achini Kulasuriya for 53 runs.
Sneh Rana who joined Deepti went on berserk mode hitting 28* runs off 15 deliveries which included 2 fours and 2 sixes.
Inoka Ranaweera went on to pick four wickets, while Udeshika bagged two wickets. Chamari Athapaththu and Achini Kulasuriya went on to pick one wickets each.
