The former cricket administrator Lalit Modi seems to have dropped a major bombshell over ‘RCB Sale’ ahead of the IPL 2026 auction.
With the rumours over the sale of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have been erupting since their maiden title win during the 2025 season, the parent company of the RCB owners, United Spirits, issued a clarification denying the reports.
On this occasion, Lalit Modi has given dropped a statement saying that the RCB owners are planning to find a new buyers for the franchise.
According to Lalit, global investors has eyed on the auction which will be handled by citi bank.
He did take it on social media on September 29 shared his insights on the franchise sale. “There have been a lot of rumour about the sale of an @IPL franchise specifically @RCBTweets – well in the past they have been denied.”
“But it seems the owners have finally decided to take it off their balance sheet and sell it. I am sure having won the IPL last season and also with its strong base of fans and off course the Team itself and a great management team – it could be the only Team which would be available as a whole as an#ipl franchise,” said Lalit in X.
“I am sure one of the Big Global funds or a Sovereign Fund would desperately like to have them as part of their investment strategy and India strategy. There can be no better investment opportunity I could think of then this one,” added Modi.
“Good luck to whoever can get their hands on to it. It definitely will set a new record valuation which will just go to show that IPL is the not only the fastest growing Global Sporting league but also the most valuable.”
“That new price that #rcb sets will become the new floor price for all teams. Good to luck to all. I am sure #citibank will do a great job auctioning the team to prospective buyers,” said the statement.
Having won their maiden IPL title in the 2025 season, and their celebration at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has cost 11 lives in the stampede.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is known for their loyal and passionate fanbase with the influence of stars like Virat Kohli and AB de villiers and a strong social media presence making them one of the most valuable franchises in Indian Premier League (IPL).
With the statement going to stir futher speculations over ‘RCB’s sale’ it is yet to get an offical announcement from the franchise.
