After a record-breaking knock from Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma made decent knocks, helping India to post a mammoth run against Sri Lanka in the Super 4s clash of the Asia Cup 2025 on September 26.

Abhishek Sharma went on to smash a 61-run knock while Sanju Samson (39) and Tilak Varma (49) helped the side to cross the 200-run mark

Batting first, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill opened the innings while Nuwan Thushara opened the bowling attack. Gill lost his wicket for 4 runs, and with Abhishek and Suryakumar Yadav at the crease, India went on to score 71 runs in the powerplay.

With Hasaranga bagged the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav (12) on a lbw. Asalanka bagged the wicket of Abhishek Sharma who scored 61 runs off 31 deliveries which included 8 fours and 2 sixes.

Despite India losing wickets on regular intervals they maintained the run rate around 10. With Sanju Samson added 39 runs to score board, Hardik Pandya lost his wicket to Chameera for 2 runs.

Speaking at the toss, Charith Asalanka said, “We are going to bowl first. We know that we can’t qualify for the final but it is still an important game for us.”

“It is a good pitch and we want to restrict them to 170-175. They have been doing really well especially our openers. We have one change – Liyange comes in for Chamika.”

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav said, “Just continue doing what we have been doing. We were actually looking to bat first. Good atmosphere, good game and we are looking forward to it. It is part of the game (dropped catches). We have two changes – Bumrah and Dube are out, Arshdeep and Harshit come in.”
