New Delhi. In the 42nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 8 wickets and won their third title. Have registered victory. In the match played at Eden Gardens Stadium, KKR batted first and scored a huge score of 261/6. In reply, PBKS team achieved the target in 18.4 overs thanks to Jonny Bairstow’s century (108*).
KKR got off to a fast start with Sunil Narine (71) and Phil Salt (75) scoring half-centuries. After this, Venkatesh Iyer (39) and Captain (28) took the team to a big score. Arshdeep Singh took 2 wickets from PBKS. Chasing the target, PBKS got a strong start from Bairstow and Prabhsimran Singh. After this, Bairstow scored his century and Shashank Singh scored a half-century (68*) to ensure a record win.
Narine completed his half-century in just 23 balls. He was out on the bowling of Rahul Chahar after scoring 71 runs in 32 balls. 9 fours and 4 sixes came from his bat. His strike rate was 221.88. Salt batted aggressively against Harshal Patel who came to bowl the third over of the innings. He hit 2 sixes and 1 four in that over. Salt got the first lease of life on his personal score of 34 runs. Opposition captain Sam Curran dropped his catch in the sixth over. In the very next over, Kagiso Rabada dropped his catch. Amidst poor fielding, Salt completed his half-century in 25 balls. Salt was out after scoring 75 runs in 37 balls. Thanks to Salt and Narine, KKR scored 137 runs without losing any wicket after their first 10 overs.
Chasing the huge target, Prabhasimran batted in an aggressive style and completed his half-century in just 18 balls. He has become the second fastest batsman to score a half-century for PBKS in IPL history. Prabhasimran was run out in an unfortunate manner after scoring 54 runs in 20 balls. He also hit 4 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. Bairstow completed his century in 45 balls. This was the second century of his IPL career. He remained unbeaten after scoring 108 runs on 48 balls. He also hit 8 fours and 9 sixes in his innings. During his innings, he added 93 runs in just 36 balls with Prabhasimran for the first wicket. After this he added 85 runs with Riley Ruse and 84 runs with Shashank.
When PBKS lost their second wicket at the score of 178 runs, Shashank came to the crease. He batted well in pressure situations and provided good support to Bairstow. This right-handed batsman completed his half-century in just 23 balls. He remained unbeaten after scoring 68 runs on 28 balls. In his IPL career, he has scored 332 runs in 19 matches at an average of 41.5 and strike rate of 173.82.
By winning this match, PBKS has successfully achieved the biggest target in IPL history. PBKS has broken the previous record of Rajasthan Royals (RR). Let us tell you that in IPL 2024, RR had achieved the target of 224 runs to win against KKR. RR’s Jos Buttler had scored a century in that match.
