Former South African cricket legend AB de Villiers has suggested that Dhoni, who is making a breakthrough performance with the best strike rate in the IPL, should be promoted in the batting order. De Villiers added that even at the age of 42, Dhoni is a dangerous batsman and will do wonders for Chennai.

“I understand that Dhoni is not playing much cricket now. He is only preparing for the IPL and that is all he is playing. So maybe he is not in the best form and is batting in the lower order. Maybe the younger players should get a chance,” de Villiers said.

“I am not saying that Dhoni should be dropped at number three. But he can be dropped at number five or six. If he is given a few more opportunities to bat, he can contribute better. Dhoni is still a dangerous batsman at the age of 42. He has been doing wonders for Chennai over the years. I think everyone would love to see Dhoni batting in the top order. ” added de Villiers.
