However, Sri Lanka quickly fought back as Nuwan Thushara picked up three quick wickets. By the 10th over, Afghanistan was struggling at 63 for 3, with only Ibrahim Zadran holding things together. Just as the middle order looked set to rebuild, a brilliant piece of fielding completely shifted the game in Sri Lanka’s favour.
On the third ball of the 11th over, Dushmantha Chameera bowled a short and wide delivery outside the off stump, tempting the batter to go for a big shot. Darwish Rasooli jumped and tried to hit it hard, but only managed to get a faint edge off his bat.
Kusal Perera, positioned at deep third, reacted quickly. He ran across the field, jumped with full stretch, and caught the ball against his chest while falling near the boundary. Without losing focus, he threw the ball back into the field before stepping over the line, then came back in and finished an incredible catch.
Rasooli was shocked, and the crowd went wild as Sri Lanka celebrated a perfect display of effort and athletic skill in the field.
