Jos Buttler equals unwanted T20I record after recording a duck against Ireland in 3rd T20I
England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler had a forgetful day at the office during the final T20I of the series against Ireland. The 35-year-old was dismissed for a two-ball duck by pacer Barry McCarthy and finished off his Ireland tour on a disappointing note.
This was Buttler's eighth duck in the shortest format as a wicketkeeper. Though he is undoubtedly a legend for England when it comes to T20Is, there have been matches where he just hasn't been able to perform and has lost his wicket for cheap.
With his duck against Ireland, Buttler equalled an unwanted T20I record and became the wicketkeeper-batter to record the joint-most ducks in the shortest format alongside Zimbabwe's Regis Chakabva.
He is the only England player to be present on the list.
Here is the list of wicketkeepers with the most ducks in T20Is -
1. Jos Buttler (England) - 8 ducks
2. Regis Chakabva (Zimbabwe) - 8 ducks
3. Quinton de Kock (South Africa) - 7 ducks
4. Uday Hathinjar (Cambodia) - 6 ducks
5. Kamran Akmal (Pakistan) - 6 ducks
6. Didier Ndikubwimana (Rwanda) - 6 ducks
7.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz (Afghanistan) - 6 ducks
8. Lorcan Tucker (Ireland) - 6 ducks
Despite Buttler's poor display with the bat, England managed to record a comfortable 6-wicket victory over Ireland in the third T20I. This victory saw Jacob Bethell win his first assignment as the side's captain as the Three Lions won the series by 2-0. Jordan Cox's knock of 55 and Tom Banton's unbeaten inning of 37 were enough for them to reach the 155-run target.
Meanwhile, Buttler didn't have a series to remember against Ireland. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 28 runs in the first match before the second game got washed out due to the weather.
He then ended up getting dismissed for a duck in the third and final match. He will now be looking to improve his performance in the side's white-ball tour of New Zealand that will include three T20Is and ODIs each and will begin from October 18.
