The wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson has smashed gritty fifty during the Asia Cup 2025 game against Oman on September 19 at Abu Dhabi.

His knock helped India to post 189 run target for Oman in the final group stage games. After choosing to bat first, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill opened the innings for India while Shakeel Ahmed opened the bowling attack.

With Gill’s dismissal by Faisal for 5 runs, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson went on to push India’s score to 60 in the powerplay.

Jiten Ramanandi grabbed the second dismissal for the side bagging the wicket of Abhishek Sharma for 38 runs. Hardik Pandya lost his wicket on a run out.

With Axar Patel (26) and Tilak Varma (29) runs, Samson went on to smash 56 runs off 45 deliveries which included 3 fours and 3 sixes.

With Harshit Rana’s unbeaten 13 runs, India went on to score 188 runs in their 20 over innings.

Speaking at the toss, Suryakumar Yadav said, “We are looking to bat first. We have not batted first in this competition and we want to know our depth. Having game time is important going into the Super 4s.”

“We want to continue the good habits we are doing in the first two games and want to continue to do that. It is looking nice and our openers will assess it further. We have two changes – Harshit comes in, one more guy comes in, I have become like Rohit (laughs),” said Suryakumar Yadav.

Meanwhile, Jatinder Singh said, “I would have batted first. It is a great experience to take from here. Our team is young, lack exposure but this gives them a good chance to come here and test themselves. It is a great opportunity to share the field with India and get a look at their mindset. We have two changes.”
