Afghanistan team could not meet expectations in Asia Cup 2025. After losing to Sri Lanka, he got out of the tournament. Coach Jonathan Trot described the team’s basic mistakes in batting, bowling and fielding as the reason for defeat. Now the team will start preparing for a better return on Bangladesh tour.
Delhi: Everyone had high expectations from the Afghanistan team in the Asia Cup 2025, but the team could not live up to expectations. After losing by 6 wickets against Sri Lanka, Afghanistan’s team fell out of the group stage itself. With this defeat, the journey to Afghanistan in the tournament ended.
Afghanistan won only one match in the tournament, which he got against Hong Kong. After this, the team had to face defeat against Bangladesh and then Sri Lanka also defeated and showed them the way out.
After the match, Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trot expressed displeasure over the team’s performance. He said, “This defeat was very disappointing and it is difficult to accept it. We felt that the score of 170 is good after Mohammad Nabi’s brilliant batting. But our bowling and fielding showed Sri Lanka the way for victory.”
Trot further said that the team made a lot of basic mistakes in the three departments – batting, bowling and fielding. “We did not start well in the powerplay, which led to the lead to the opposition team. We were not in our rhythm on the field and continued to make small mistakes. With such mistakes you cannot win the match in such a tournament.”
The coach admitted that the team had landed in the tournament with great intentions, but they could not fulfill it. He said, “We had stepped here with great expectations. I was confident that we can do something big, but now we need to think where there is a mistake. We have to improve ourselves before the T20 World Cup in February.
After being out of the Asia Cup, now Afghanistan team will go on a tour of Bangladesh. There, three T20 matches between the two teams will start from October 2, while the ODI series will start from October 8. The Afghan team led by Rashid Khan would like to make a comeback in this series.
