Hong Kong Cricket has confirmed that former India off-spinner R. Ashwin will take part in the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 for Team India.

The Hong Kong Sixes tournament features teams of six players each taking part in six-over matches. Team India’s side in 2024 featured names including Robin Uthappa, Manoj Tiwari, Shahbaz Nadeem, and Stuart Binny.

The 2025 edition of the tournament will take place from November 7 to November 9.

Speaking after the announcement, Ashwin said, ‘We have all watched the HK Sixes as youngsters on Television and it has always been an existing format that I wanted to be a part of.

This format requires a different strategy and will prove to be high octane which I am looking forward to play alongside my ex-teammates. I am also thrilled to compete against some quality players in the opposition teams, it will be a good challenge for us.”

The announcement comes after Ashwin had announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL), and expressed an interest in participating in overseas franchise tournaments. According to reports, he is also expected to be a part of the upcoming ILT20 auction.

Ashwin had retired from international cricket in December last year during the tour of Australia after a decorated career that saw him become India’s second-highest wicket-taker (537) in Tests behind Anil Kumble (619).
