Delhi: After struggling in front of a team like Hong Kong in the Asia Cup, Sri Lanka strengthened the hopes of reaching Super-4 by registering a second consecutive win, but the team’s performance captain Charaith Asalanka I did not like at all. Asalanka clearly said that such a win was not part of his plan and if the team has to move forward in the tournament, then the performance will have to be improved.

Nisanka’s half -century, Hasranga’s rapid innings

Chasing a target of 150 runs in the Group B match, Sri Lanka won by four wickets thanks to the brilliant innings of Pathum Nisanka (68). However, during the match, the team was caught in deep crisis at one time. In the 16th over, Sri Lanka lost 4 wickets within just 9 runs, including Asalanka’s wickets, due to which Hong Kong started seeing full hope of victory. But, finally Vanindu Hasranga gave Sri Lanka victory by hitting an unbeaten 20 off 9 balls.

Captain Asalanka expressed resentment

After the match, Asalanka said, “I felt that we had come close to the necklace. The first three -over bowling and the sudden falling wicket in the 16th over I found it very disappointing. This could happen in small formats, but it should not happen continuously.”

The Sri Lankan captain further said, “We have to analyze our mistakes and improve. We did not want to play this kind of cricket.”

It is worth noting that earlier in the match, Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh and made a great debut in the current tournament.
