GT skipper Shubman Gill discussed his team’s performance this season and his personal growth after assuming leadership. Despite narrowly losing to Delhi Capitals by just four runs, Gill expressed unexpected satisfaction, praising his team’s fighting spirit. In this match, where Gujarat Titans almost chased the formidable target of 225 runs and scored 220, the team showed admirable spirit after early setbacks, including Gill being dismissed for just six runs.

In a thrilling encounter, Rishabh Pant dazzled with an unbeaten 88 that steered DC to a close four-run victory against GT. After DC chose to bat first, Pant’s explosive knock, paired with Axar Patel‘s composed 66 off 43, powered them to 224-4. Despite valiant knocks from Sai Sudharsan (65 off 29) and David Miller (55 off 23), the 2022 IPL champions fell just short, finishing on 220-8.

“Serving as captain of GT has been a rewarding experience. In this leadership role, I’m gaining valuable insights about myself and my teammates. As an individual player, my focus was on making a personal impact. But as captain, I’m thinking more broadly about how to bring out the best in everyone on the team,” Shubman Gill said.

Though narrowly losing by four runs while chasing 225 against DC, Gill showed remarkable composure reflecting on the match. Rather than dwelling on their intense encounters, he commended the team’s resilience and fighting spirit. Even after losing an early wicket, the team refused to give up, which Gill praised as a sign of their determination.

“I am not stressed. GT have played 2 finals in 2 years, so what do I have to be stressed about? Losing to DC brought me more joy than winning against Punjab, because we showed great tenacity in that game. We only lost to DC by 4 runs while chasing 225. I was out for just 6 runs, but the way we refused to collapse after losing an early wicket made me truly happy. As a captain, 2 points don’t matter to me – 2 points will come if we play well. But the manner in which we play our game is what matters most,” he added.
