Delhi: Former England wicketkeeper Rolland Bachar believes that after the conclusion of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s Test career, the Indian team will miss their shortage for a long time. Bachar says that at this time India has the only match winner batsman Rishabh Pant, while the rest of the players are good, but have not yet reached the level where they can turn the match on their own.
In a special conversation with ANI, Bachar said, “The Indian team will miss these two players, because Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were match winners. They could alone change the result of the match. The current players are good and scored, but they could not reach the position of winning the match as fast.”
He further said that for the next few years there will be a round of change for Indian cricket and the team will have to find new matches winning batsmen. Rolland said, “At this time only Rishabh Pant is the only player who has the ability to win the match. It will not be easy to replace Kohli and Sharma, as their record proves that he has been among the best players in the world.”
In England, India draws the Test series 2–2 under the captaincy of Gill. His leadership was also highly appreciated. The team showed the mentality of not giving up, which reflected in five Test matches. Nevertheless, Bachar believes that the circumstances of England’s pitches were favorable for Gill, which made his first experience relatively easy.
He said, “Gill is still young under the captaincy and will have to learn to handle the game. Suddenly he has taken responsibility after the retirement of two veteran players. In such a situation, he will have to establish himself as captain, will have to take new players along and make the identity of the team. It will not be an easy journey.”
