The South African batter Tony de Zorzi has been ruled out of the remainder of the England ODIs after sustaining a hamstring injury in the first ODI in Leeds.

De Zorzi was fielding on the boundary when he dived to stop a shot from Jos Buttler. Despite successfully stopping the ball, he sustained a left hamstring injury in the process.

He left the field for medical aid and did not return to the field and bat only if required. South Africa were chasing a modest target of 132 and did not need de Zorzi.

He will now return home to undergo scans and determine the extent of the injury. No replacement batter has been named as de Zorzi was the reserve and played in place of Matthew Breetzke, who himself had a left hamstring tweak and missed the last ODI in Australia and the first in England.

There is no update on the avaialbility on Kagiso Rabada, who missed the ODIs in Australia with ankle inflammation and did not play at Headingley.

Codi Yusuf has been playing for Durham, was brought into the South African squad, which suggests Rabada may not make an appearance until the T20Is.

Another concern is Temba Bavuma is still under a workload management protocol after hurting his hamstring in the World Test Championship final in June.

Bavuma played in two of the three ODIs in Australia and the first match of the England series and is expected to be rested for one of the remaining two.

Proteas Men secured a comfortable 7 wicket win after restricting hosts for 131 runs in the first ODI match of the South Africa tour of Australia 2025. Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj picked 3 and 4 wickets respectively. Aiden Markram’s solid 86 run knock has helped the side to secure quick victory in the game.

The second ODI match of the series will be played on September 04 at Lord’sLondon.
