Delhi: Former England captain Alastair Cook has said to add a new rule to make Test cricket more interesting. He suggested that the teams should get permission to take a new ball at any time within 160 overs. Under the current rule, teams can take a new ball only after 80 overs.

Cook-Won suggested to ICC

Cook said in a podcast, “I would like to see this change in Test cricket. Get two new balls within 160 overs and the teams can take the second ball whenever they want. Take it in the 30th over or in 100th, it is completely on their strategy. It will bring new thinking and thrill in the game.”

In this podcast, another former England captain Michael Vaughan spoke about the subsidy (change) for the injured players. He said that if a player is injured like the rest of the sports in cricket, then another player should come down instead.

Vaughan gave the example of the recently ended India-England series. He said, “Rishabh Pant had a fracture in his leg, yet he got down to bat. But, for fielding, Dhruv Jurlel was allowed to do wicketkeeping only. According to the current rules, the team cannot take off someone else until the player is not hurt in the head, ie there is a case of conversion substitutes.”

Von said that when the conversion substitute is allowed, then why the same rules cannot be done on the rest of the injuries. He said that this happens in the rest of the sports and it also improves the level of the match.
