Panesar says that if the next Ashes tour is bad, then the career of Root can also go on a slope like Virat Kohli.
Delhi: England veteran batsmen who are counted among the most trusted and successful batsmen of root Test cricket. Root has scored 6080 runs since the beginning of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). During this time 22 centuries are also included. He has proved himself to be the best Test batsman of the current generation with a strong performance. The Ashes series to be held later this year is his next big challenge.
Joe Root has so far played 27 innings on the Australian soil and scored 892 runs. During this time his average has been 35.68. However, he scored 9 half -centuries, but has not been able to score a single century till now. Many times he went above 80. However, he missed the century and missed it. This figure is considered to be the biggest drawback of his magnificent career.
Former England spinner Monty Panesar has given a big statement about the route. He says that if the next Ashes tour is bad, then the career of Root can also go on a slope like Virat Kohli.
Panesar said, “It will completely depend on how his performance is in the Ashes. We saw with Virat Kohli that he kept battling with the balls coming to the fourth and fifth stump in Australia and his decline has started from there. If the route also failed in the Ashes, people will start questioning whether his golden phase has passed.”
Panesar believes that it will not be easy for the route to score a century on Australia’s bouncy pitches. He said, “He will face the world’s strongest bowling attack. It is extremely difficult to score on the bouncy track. Yes, he can get a chance in places like Adelaide and Melbourne, where the pitch is slightly slow.”
However, Panesar also expressed confidence in the ability of the route. According to him, Route can break the record of Sachin Tendulkar’s highest Test run (15,921). Currently, Root has 13,543 runs and he is just 2378 runs behind Tendulkar. Panesar said, “I said earlier that the routes can go up to 18,000 runs. If he plays the next 4-5 years and maintains average 50, it is absolutely possible.”
