Players, who made it to the Indian team for the Asia Cup (Asia Cup 2025), are scheduled to gather in Dubai on September 4 before the inaugural match of the tournament against hosts United Arab Emirates on September 9.

Senior batsman Rohit Sharma and fast bowler Mohammad Siraj have also reached COE for fitness assessment.

Fitness investigation may begin on Sunday and everyone’s eye will remain on one -day team captain Rohit who has retired before T20 and Test cricket.

This 38 -year -old player may visit Australia for the ODI series to be held in October, but it remains to be seen whether he plays against Australia A in Kanpur on September 30, October 3 and October 5 or not. The ODI series matches against Australia will be played on 19, 23 and 25 October.

Due to the flu, Gill could not play in the ongoing Dalip Trophy quarter -finals against the eastern region where he had to captain the north region.

Gill was recovering from illness at his house in Chandigarh before coming to Bengaluru.

It is possible that Gill takes flying from Bengaluru to Dubai, as this time the players will reach Dubai directly from their respective places, while the team used to gather in Mumbai before traveling earlier.

Apart from Gill, wicketkeeper batsman Jitesh Sharma has also reached COE for preparations before the tournament.

PTI has come to know that main fast bowlers Jaspreet Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shardul Thakur are also going to reach COE.

The Thakur Duleep Trophy is set to captain the western region in the semi -finals, while Jaiswal and Sundar, placed in Standby for the Asia Cup, will also play in this domestic tournament.

Some other players selected in the Indian team for the Asia Cup such as Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana (Northern Region) and Kuldeep Yadav (Central Region) are already playing the Duleep Trophy quarter -finals.

Meanwhile, the South region will have to announce the new captain for the Duleep Trophy semi-finals (4-7 September), as Tilak Verma has been included in the Asia Cup team.

Mohammad Azharuddin of Kerala is the vice-captain and can be appointed captain.

Apart from him, this responsibility can also be entrusted to a more experienced player like Sai Sai Kishore, Devdutt Padikkal or N Jagdishan.

Meanwhile, the eastern region suffered a shock when his fast bowler Mukesh Kumar could not bowl in the second innings. This was probably due to injury during the first innings.
