Lewis Hill made 81, while Alex Green added two more wickets to his impressive campaign, but Glamorgan cruised to a seven-wicket win over Leicestershire in South Wales.

Youngsters prevailed for Glamorgan in a consoling end to a sour, bottom-placed title defence, with Asa Tribe’s second century in as many games backed up by figures of 3 for 41 and 3 for 59 from the 18-year-old pair Tom Norton, on debut, and Romano Franco respectively.
Hill showed resistance for the Foxes, who scored 274, before 21-year-old Tribe’s coming-of-age season was flaunted by 131 not out - accompanied by Will Smale’s unbeaten 83 - in the seven-wicket win, match-winning partnership against a patched-up Leicestershire side.

Leicestershire fielded numerous changes from their stock red-ball outfit, but head into September top of the table with three games to secure promotion to Division One.

The away side came out to the blocks, firing despite being inserted, taking full advantage of an opening bowling pair of no pacey threat. Sol Budinger planted Andy Gorvin for two straight sixes inside five overs before being untimely dismissed, caught at deep third to a good low catch from Norton, in the first act of a strong fielding display.

The competition minor hangover that appeared for the Welsh county showcased by 11 runs from the first over, followed by five wides from Zain Ul Hassan’s first ball, and four overthrows an over later, was snapped back into concentration after Budinger threatened to take the game away early.

At 44 for 1 from just five overs, Hill was able to remain patient for a chanceless time at the crease. The number three built his way to a half-century with ease and looked in full control.

With Shan Masood and Peter Handscomb at four and five, a game could easily be taken away from a side fielding two 18-year-old bowlers. However, Norton trapping Masood before anotheryoungsterr Henry Hur, le throwing down Handscomb’s stumps to break an 84-run stand, was key to the back end.

A couple of Alex Green blows towards the death helped the Taiii wag, but Glamorgan bowling a team out for the first time in their seven played matches demonstrated themselves to be in the driving seat.

Eddie Byrom started the chase typically composed, milking singles before throwing away offside slash after getting himself in. Top wicket-taker in the tournament, Green, took just two balls to find himself a wicket – Hurle chopping the 18-year-old on.

Kiran Carlson had three trademark sixes inside 13 balls before his cameo was ended prematurely, a partnership of 57 inside six overs, while Tribe broke no sweat.

Tribe going about his work quietly, in Carlson’s sh, while still scoring at a-run-a-ball for the most part made for an evident big score by an on-drive for four on 16. His back-to-back boundaries to reach a 48-ball half-century were just half the job.
The match-changing partnership of 172 unbeaten could never have been. Smale caught on three square-driving a Green no-ball to backwards-point gave him a reprieve; then another with a simple dropped catch when the damage had mostly been done, albeit if taken could’ve made for a nervy ending.
