Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been in terrific fun in the ongoing 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League, however, he is set to remain unrewarded as a shocking detail on India's
T20 World Cup 2024 squad selection seems to suggest that the RR bowler is not even in contention to be selected for the marquee tournament.
T20 World Cup 2024, which is the only major ICC tournament to happen this year, will kickstart from June 1 onwards with USA and West Indies co-hosting the marquee tournament for the first time. Ahead of the tournament, there's a lot of excitement and much of that buzz is also being felt in the ongoing 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League.
Yuzvendra Chahal not in contention to get selected in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad?
Talking about Chahal, he is currently the joint highest wicket-taker in the ongoing season of IPL alongside Jasprit Bumrah, having picked 13 wickets in 8 games so far this season. On Monday, in a game against
Mumbai Indians, Chahal became the first player in IPL history to pick 200 wickets.
His contributions are one of the reasons why the Royals are leading the points table and are also considered favorites to win the title.
Considering the way he was bowling, Chahal was hopeful to finally return to the Indian side. However, as per a report by Cricbuzz, it seems Chahal isn't even in contention to make the flight to the USA.
According to the report, the Indian management is looking at Kuldeep Yadav as the specialist spin-bowling option alongside R Ashwin and Axar Patel to aid the spin-bowling and all-round department.
Notably, if Chahal fails to make it to the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 that means he would have missed four consecutive world cups (T20 WC 2021, T20 WC 2022, ODI WC 2023, T20WC 2024.)
