In a conversation with The Telegraph, Gomez claimed that Samson has full potential to mold in lower order.

Delhi: His coach Rifi Gomez has given a big statement about the Indian cricket team’s wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson. Prior to the Asia Cup 2025, he clarified that Samson is ready to play on any order according to the need of the team. It is believed that in this tournament, this star player from Kerala may have to bat at the fifth or sixth, because Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar has already made it clear that the role of the opener will be given to Shubman Gill.

“Sanju ready to play on any order”

In a conversation with The Telegraph, Gomez claimed that Samson has full potential to mold in lower order. He said, “Sanju is a professional and an established player at the international level. His flexibility is his strength. He has full faith in his abilities and he can play according to the needs of the team.”

Different roles tried in domestic league

While playing for Kochi Blue Tigers in the Kerala Cricket League, Samson kept himself in the middle, but did not get a chance to bat in the initial match. In the next match, he landed as an opener and scored a stormy century off 42 balls. In the third match, he returned to the middle order again and could score only 13 runs off 22 balls while playing at number six.

Strong performance in T20 cricket

The main reason for Samson’s success in T20 international cricket has been fearless batting at the beginning of the innings.

In the year 2024/25, he created history and achieved the distinction of becoming the only Indian cricketer to score three centuries in a calendar year.

“What is being said outside, we don’t mind”

Gomez also made it clear that there is no pressure on Samson. He said, “Did Sanju ever say that he is under pressure? No, these are all outside things.

We do not matter what people are saying.”
