With multiple reports suggesting Shreyas Iyer to be named as the next ODI captain, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has denied the reports.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has addressed the rumours of possible chances for Shreyas Iyer to take over captaincy. The reports started emerging after the middle-order batter was snubbed from India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025.
Several sources have revealed that BCCI is keen on relieving Rohit Sharma from the leadership roles, who is in the twilight of his career.
Speaking to the media, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said, “That’s news to me. There have been no such discussions.”
Shreyas Iyer has been the headlines ever since he was ignored by the selectors for the upcoming Asia Cup.
India’s chief selectors Ajit Agarkar explained Shreyas’ absence during the squad announcement and told reporters earlier this week, “With regards to Shreyas, it’s not his fault, nor is it ours. It’s just that you can pick 15, and at the moment you’ll have to wait for his chance.”
