Australia’s Travis Head produced a memorable all-round display of bowling and fielding in the first ODI against South Africa, dismantling half of the Proteas’ batting line-up almost single-handedly.
Head finished with 4 wickets for 57 runs in 9 overs, dismissing Ryan Rickelton (33), Tristan Stubbs (0), Dewald Brevis (6), and Keshav Maharaj (13). Brevis, who smashed a six first ball, was removed immediately after by Head.
Adding to his heroics, Head executed a sensational no-look run-out. Prenelan Subramaniam, stranded outside the crease, was caught short when Head, without even looking at the stumps, threw the ball back to dislodge the bails. The video of this moment has gone viral, with fans hailing it as the “play of the day.”
This performance marked Head’s second four-wicket haul in ODIs. He now has 28 wickets in 74 matches, with his best figures being 4/28 against England.
Batting first, South Africa posted 296/8 in 50 overs, powered by Aiden Markram’s brilliant 82 off 81 balls (9 fours).
