Aakash Chopra has questioned the omission of Yashasvi Jaiswal from Team India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025. He wonders whether the Indian players are being treated differently, saying that the reason given for Shubman Gill’s promotion as vice-captain should have been applied to the left-hander’s selection as well.

The Asia Cup will be played in the UAE starting September 9, and Jaiswal has been kept in the reserve category.

“You took three openers to the T20 World Cup in 2024. Yashasvi was the third opener. They said Shubman Gill was given the vice-captaincy as he was the captain for the T20I series against Zimbabwe after the World Cup and was the vice-captain when Suryakumar Yadav became the captain. It was also said that Sanju Samson opened the batting because Gill was not there,” Akash Chopra said.

“If we take that logic, Yashasvi Jaiswal was the part of the T20 World Cup team. So his number should have come first, but you didn’t select him. You should be questioned if he is not picked. Are we having different rules for different people?” he added.

Aakash mentioned that superstars are needed to take Indian cricket forward. He mentioned that Shubman Gill is already a superstar, and Yashasvi Jaiswal has fallen behind in the race.
