Sachin Tendulkar’s career is often described as a fairy tale in the history of cricket. With over 34,000 international runs, 100 centuries, and records that may never be broken, the ‘Master Blaster’ is more than just a cricketer—he is an emotion for millions. Across two decades, fans celebrated his glorious knocks, his battles with legendary bowlers, and his match-winning performances that lifted Indian cricket to new heights. For the cricketing world, every run he scored was a moment of joy, but for his family, every innings carried a different layer of meaning, often seen from the perspective of being close to the man behind the legend.
In a recent interaction with India Today, Sachin’s daughter Sara Tendulkar was asked to recall her favourite memory of her father’s career. Interestingly, she did not mention one of his famous centuries or record-breaking feats, but instead chose his farewell Test at Wankhede in 2013.
For Sara, attending matches in her childhood meant enjoying the atmosphere without fully understanding her father’s significance in cricket. But by 2013, she was mature enough to realize that she was witnessing not just her father retiring but the curtain falling on one of the greatest chapters in sports history.
“If I have to pick one vivid memory, then I would pick his retirement match. I was old enough to really understand what that meant at that point. When I was younger, I went for the games, but I never really grasped the enormity of them,” said Sara.
The farewell Test was more than just another cricket match—it was an occasion where an entire nation bid goodbye to its hero. Fans wept in the stands, legends paid tribute, and Sachin’s own emotional speech moved the world. For Sara, standing there as part of the family, it was the first time she fully understood the scale of her father’s impact on people’s lives.
Beyond being the daughter of a cricketing legend, Sara has grown into a well-recognised personality herself. With a strong presence on social media, she often trends for her style, charm, and glimpses of her personal life that resonate with her large following. She has carved her own identity in the public eye while gracefully carrying forward the legacy of being associated with one of the greatest sports icons in history.
