Main point:

Yashasvi Jaiswal has not been included in the Asia Cup 2025 team. Ashwin has asked questions to the selectors after Shubman Gill’s return and the vice-captain. He has described it as injustice for Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer and has also expressed concern about Sanju Samson’s place.

Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15 -member team for the Asia Cup 2025 on Tuesday. The biggest surprise in this was when Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer were not selected in the team. Jaiswal’s style of playing shots is so easy and beautiful that he looks perfectly fit for every format, so when he did not get a place in the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2025, everyone was surprised.

Jaiswal has not been included in the main team this time. He is only in the list of reserved players. At the same time, Shubman Gill has been made the vice-captain of the team.

Ashwin expressed resentment

Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin expressed surprise at the decision. He said that there is no concrete reason to exclude Jaiswal, as he was part of the team in the T20 World Cup 2024 and was present as a backup opener.

Yashasvi has played 23 T20 matches for India so far and scored 723 runs at a strike rate of 164.31. His last T20 match was against Sri Lanka in July 2024. At the same time, Shubman Gill’s last T20 match was also in this series.

Ashwin spoke in favor of Shreyas-Yashasvi

Ashwin said on his YouTube channel ‘Ash Ki Baat’, “Look, selecting is not an easy task. To get someone out of the team and tell him that he has dropped, it is not an easy thing. I hope that Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal would have been called and told why they were not selected.”

He further said, “Shubman Gill also has good figures. He has scored a lot of runs for the Gujarat Titans. So his selection is understood. But, it is not right to exclude Yashasvi.”

Questioning the selectors, the former veteran spinner said, “When Jaiswal was the third opener in the T20 World Cup team, why was he excluded now? It looks good to see Shubman in the team, but looks very bad for Yashasvi and Shreyas Iyer. These two players were entitled to the team.”

Ashwin also added that it is not necessary to make only one player the captain of the three formats. Perhaps the selector is trying to make Shubman a full-format captain of the future, but this reduces the opportunities of other players.
