The former Indian cricketer Chetan Sharma backs Jasprit Bumrah on the Workload management issue.
Bumrah was criticised for playing only three out of five tests of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. However, he picked 14 wickets in three games, including two fifers, to finish as the fourth-highest wicket-taker of the series.
Speaking on Bumrah’s workload, he said that guidance from physios regarding workload must be taken into account.
“If the medical team advises, if the doctor tells me that I have to take antibiotics, then I have to consume them. If our physios are telling a player to manage workload, I think we should listen to them because they are the better judges.”
The former chief selector of India, Chetan Sharma also praised the team’s brilliant performance in England and expressed confidence that India will achieve title in the Asia Cup 2025.
“I know that whoever is selected will be the best for the country. And the kind of cricket we are playing right now, I’m really proud with the way India played in England. And I’m very confident that we are definitely going to win the Asia Cup because soon after that we are playing the T20 World Cup in India.”
Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar has also shared on Bumrah’s workload management. He said, “Nobody is indispensable. That’s why it is of prime importance for the selectors to now decide when Jasprit Bumrah should be playing. There’s already been a lot of debate about his appearances in the recently concluded series in England.”
“The Indian team management stated that he wasn’t picked considering his future. This is where the lines between what is good for the individual and what is good for Indian cricket got a little blurred,” he added.
The 17th edition of the Asia Cup will begin on September 09 with Afghanistan and Hong Kong in the opener match at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.
With India is set to announce their squad on August 19, the cricketing fans are eager to see Bumrah’s name in the squad.
India will play their first match against UAE on September 10 at Dubai International StadiumDubai.
