The ECB has announced the England squad for the Ireland series next month, which will be led by Jacob Bethell.

Bethell is set to captain the senior side for the first time, but is also set to become the youngest player to captain in international cricket. He will be breaking the record of Monty Bowden, who led the England side against South Africa in 1888.

On the other hand, fast bowler Sonny Baker has received his maiden call-up while leg spinner Rehan Ahmed has been rewarded with a recall after an impressive domestic season. On the other hand, Tom Hartley has been added to the squad strengthening England’s spin attack.

“Jacob Bethell has impressed with his leadership qualities ever since he has been with the England squads and the series against Ireland will provide him with the opportunity to further develop those skills on the international stage,” said England Men Selector, Luke Wright.

“Sonny (Baker) is a player we have identified for a while and he was impressive during the England Lions tours last winter. He has carried that form into this season in white-ball cricket with Hampshire and Manchester Originals and deservedly gets his opportunity,” he added speaking about the Hampshire pacer.

However, both sides will be a major boost for the hosts comes in the form of pacer Jofra Archer’s inclusion for both the ODI and T20I series.

Jofra Archer who starred for England during the recent five-match test series against India, having made his comeback to the longest format following a four-year hiatus.

The Ireland series will be played after the South Africa tour of England 2025 which will be played between September 02 and 14.
