While social media often fuels rumours about a supposed rift, Gambhir and Dhoni have continued to share a friendly relationship off the field. Gambhir has dismissed these speculations, reaffirming his admiration for the former captain.
A photograph of MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir sharing a laugh at a wedding has gained widespread attention on social media. The former World Cup-winning captain, along with the current head coach of the Indian men’s team, was spotted together at the wedding of Utkarsh Sanghvi, who is the brother of Harsh Sanghvi, Gujarat’s Minister of State.
Dhoni attended the event with his wife, Sakshi Singh Rawat, wearing a green blazer and a white shirt. Gambhir was also in attendance. Not long ago, the India coach visited the Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain to offer prayers ahead of India’s Asia Cup campaign.

Rohit Sharma, India’s ODI captain, was also at the event, along with other prominent personalities like Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, Tilak Varma, and Parthiv Patel. Irfan, accompanied by his family, was seen giving blessings to the newlyweds, Utkarsh and Dhvani Kanungo.
Dhoni has been relishing his time away from cricket. The 44-year-old last played competitive cricket during the IPL 2025 season, where he captained Chennai Super Kings.
The iconic wicketkeeper-batter has been non-committal about his future in the IPL, stating that he has plenty of time to decide before the next season and would make his decision “after a few bike rides in Ranchi.”
Gambhir has successfully avoided criticism after India’s comeback to draw the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy in England. Despite questions over his selections, the young team, led by Shubman Gill, fought back to win the final Test at The Oval. Gambhir is now focused on leading India to another victory in the Asia Cup, which begins on September 9 in the UAE.
