The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has issued an official statement about Dewald Brevis’ contract during IPL 2025 after veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin‘s recent revelation.
The franchise confirmed that all procedures have been followed for signing Brevis as a replacement player in the IPL 2025, fully following the league’s rules and regulations.
Dewald Brevis was signed as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh in the previous edition for INR 2.20 crore, the same amount CSK had paid the Tamil Nadu left-arm pacer during the mega auction.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ravichandran Ashwin revealed that Dewald Brevis secured a contract with the five times champions CSK above his base price.
“Brevis had a wild second half of the season for CSK,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. “I heard 2-3 teams were in talks with him, but they weren’t willing to pay extra, so negotiations fell through.”
“If I come now and do well, my value goes up. So pay me for that value.’ CSK nailed it by getting him for whatever number he negotiated. Now, they’ve got themselves a crown jewel,” Ashwin said.
“I genuinely feel CSK cracked their combination in the back half, and they’ll head into the mini-auction with Rs 30 crore in hand, with the potential to assemble a tournament-winning side. CSK’s next season is looking prime and proper,” he concluded.
On this occasion, CSK has issued an official statement amid rumour. The five-times champions clarified that their acquisition of Brevis as a replacement player was within the IPL rules and guidelines.
“Chennai Super Kings categorically clarifies that all actions taken by the franchise during the signing process of Dewald Brevis as a Replacement Player during TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 were in complete compliance with the rules and regulations of IPL,” the official statement read.
“Dewald Brevis was signed in full accordance with the IPL Player Regulations 2025-27, specifically clause 6.6 under ‘Replacement Players’,” the five-time champions’ statement read further.
Dewald Brevis made an impressive outing in the IPL 2025, hitting 225 runs in 6 matches. He scored two half-centuries and batted at a strike rate of 180.
Brevis had recently smashed his maiden T20I century for South Africa against Australia, breaking several records in the process, including on becoming the youngest from his country to achieve the feat.
