Delhi: Rishabh Pant, the vice -captain of the Indian Test team, expressed displeasure on social media over his left leg injury. On Wednesday, he shared a picture of his plaster with his plaster on Instagram story, on which he wrote – “I Hate this sooo much”.
The injury suffered on the first day of the fourth Test against England in Manchester. The 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman hit a fast ball on his left leg, after which he was taken out of the ground with a golf cart.
After the injury, the BCCI’s medical team held a meeting late at night, in which it was decided that Pant needed at least six weeks to recover. When asked if he could bat with the help of painkillers, the answer was, “If needed, he can do it.”
On the same day, Pant also shared a light video, in which he was seen making pizza. He had fun and said, “Nothing made at home, I am making pizza here.” In the video, he was seen to be a little lame, but there was a smile on his face and was wearing chef’s apron. He captioned the video – “Impasto, Salsa, Forno and Me.”
Pant did not lose courage. After Shardul Thakur was dismissed, he came back on the field wearing a full kit. After retiring for 37 runs, he came to bat again and played a courageous innings of 54 runs in 75 balls.
Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir described Pant’s innings as a ‘turning point’ for the team. Gambhir said, “The real strength of the team is made up of such players. The work that Pant has done will inspire the future generations. Batting with a broken leg is not an easy task.”
He added, “It is unfortunate that he was in such a magnificent form and got injured. But he is a very important player for the team. Hopefully he will get well soon and will perform brilliantly for the team again.”
