Mitchell Owen Ruled Out of Remainder of South Africa Tour Due to Concussion

Australia all-rounder Mitchell Owen has been ruled out of the remainder of the white-ball series against South Africa due to concussion after being struck on the helmet by Kagiso Rabada.

Hence, his ODI debut will have to wait for the rising star, as he was rested for 12 days. He passed the on-field assessment, but then reported delayed symptoms after being dismissed.

Apart from Mitchell Owen, Matt Short and Lance Morris have also been ruled out of the series. Despite being picked in both squads, Short has been ruled out due to a side injury during the West Indies tour and has been able to make a quick recovery.

Meanwhile Lance Morris who picked only for ODI series of South Africa tour of Australia 2025, after reporting lower back soreness, Morris has returned to perth, where he will be further evaluated.

The duo will be replaced by all-rounder Aaron Hardie and bowler Matthew Kuhnemann. The T20I series is tied 1-1, with Australia winning the first match by 17 runs. However, South Africa bounced back secured 53 runs in the back of Dewald Brevis’ century in the second T20I.

The third T20I will be played on August 16 at Cazalys Stadium. The ODI series is set to begin on 19 at the same venue.
