28 -year -old Akash Deep made his debut in February 2024 while being a coach of Rahul Dravid. He then played nine more tests in Gautam Gambhir’s coaching. He did not play Leeds Tests on England tour, but took India a historic victory by taking 10 wickets in the Birmingham Test.
Delhi: Fast bowler Akash Deep told that on the tour of England, he got a lot of support from team coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill. Akash praised Gambhir fiercely and said that the coach showed so much confidence in him as he did not do on himself.
Akash remembered that when he won the Indian team by scoring 66 runs in the second innings in the last Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, what was Gambhir called him. He had taken the team to a score of 396 with an important partnership of 131 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal. He said, “Gautam Bhaiya said to me – ‘You do not know your strength. See, I was already saying that you can do. Keep playing with this dedication’.”
Akash further said, “Gautam Bhaiya is a very passionate coach. He always motivates. He has more confidence in both my batting and bowling.”

Lords and The Oval did not get wickets, but he contributed significantly with the bat as a nightwatchman. Especially in the decisive Test, his innings strengthened the team.
Regarding Shubman Gill, Akash said, “It is not felt that we are playing under the undergone of a new captain. He has already captained the IPL and that experience is now useful in Test cricket.” He further said, “When the captain backs you and understands in bad times, it makes a lot of difference. I played his underworks in the Dalip Trophy last year too, then there was already understanding.”
Akash Deep, who has played 10 Tests so far, said that now he wants to play ODI and T20 for India.
“We cannot go and say to the selectors. They are experienced people. When they feel that I have to take it, I will call myself. My job is just to perform and be ready.”
Although Akash has not yet got much success in the IPL, but his average is 24 in List A cricket and 26 in T20. It is clear that they are also ready for small formats.
