India’s Test skipper Shubman Gill was named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July 2025 after his magnificent run in the five-match Test series in England. Gill went past the challenge of England captain Ben Stokes and South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder.

It was Gill’s fourth Player of the Month award, the most by a male cricketer ever.

The 25-year-old was adjudged the ICC Player of the Month in January 2023, September 2023 and February 2025. Gill expressed happiness and kept the current award above the previous three, as it was awarded for his performance in his first series as Test captain.

“It feels great to get the award. It is of more significance since it has come for my performance in my first series as a captain. I will cherish this moment and it will be one of the highlights of India’s tour to England,” Shubman Gill said.

The England Test series gave him a chance to learn. “The Test series against England made me learn a lot of things. I am thankful to the jury for selecting me and my teammates for providing support. I want to contribute in the near future and bring more laurels for India,” he added.

Gill scored 754 runs from five Tests at an average of 75.4 with four hundreds. He was adjudged Player of the Series from the Indian side.

Meanwhile, England batter Sophia Dunkley was named the Women’s Player of the Month. She was chosen ahead of Sophie Ecclestone and Gaby Lewis.

She accumulated 151 runs in five T20Is against India and managed 126 runs in three ODIs against the same opponent.
