After Dewald Brevis’ stellar knock, Kwena Maphaka and Corbin Bosch went on to shine in the bowling department to successfully defend South Africa’s 218-run total in the second T20I against Australia.
Proteas secured a 53-run victory to level the series 1-1 in the South Africa tour of Australia 2025. Both Kwena Maphaka and Corbin Bosch went on to pick three wickets each and restrict Australia to 165 runs.
Batting first, Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton opened the innings while Josh Hazlewood opened the bowling attack.
Despite Maxwell dismissed Markram and Lhuan dre Pretorius for 18 and 10 runs, Dwarshuis picked the wicket of Rickelton for 14 runs.
However Dewald Brevis went on to score 125* runs off 56 deliveries which included 12 fours and 8 sixes. With Tristan Stubbs’s 31 runs, Rassie van der Dussen, Corbin Bosch and Kagiso Rabada lost their wickets for cheaply as South Africa scored 218 runs in their 20 over innings.
Glenn Maxwell and Josh Hazlewood picked two wickets each while Hazlewood and Zampa picked a wicket each.
In the pursuit of chasing 165 runs, Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head opened the innings while Kagiso Rabada opened the bowling attack.
Markram and Maphaka went on to dimiss Travis Head and Cameron Green cheaply for 5 and 9 within the powerplay where the hosts scored 58 runs.
With Mitchell Marsh’s 22 runs, Australia lost three wickets for 77 runs. Despite Tim David 50 run knock, Australia went on to lose wickets at regular intervals. Maxwell (16), Alex Carey (26) and Ben Dwarshuis (12) runs did not help the hosts to secure victory.
Dewald Brevis was named as the Player of the match. Speaking on the post match presentation, Brevis said, “I haven’t thought about it to be honest (on having the highest score for South Africa in T20Is). Really grateful and thankful to god for winning tonight.”
“We want to win and to come back stronger after the first game. Everyone played a part and we took our catches. They are great players and they hit the ball hard and over the ropes, we have to be on it in this format. We played well today, so it’s great,” he concluded.
