Lucknow: Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant is in great form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. In such a situation, wicketkeeper remains the first choice for the role of batsman for the T20 World Cup 2024, to be played jointly by West Indies and USA this year. He can prove to be an important link in the middle order in the World Cup. However, former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull believes that Pant should bat at number three in the World Cup.

The left-handed batsman played an excellent innings of 88 against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Wednesday. In view of this, the former Kiwi player believes that if Pant comes to bat in the upper order, he will get additional opportunity to establish his eyes. In such a situation, he can play long innings for the team because he is not a player who can play big shots as soon as he comes on the field. Doull gave his reaction on Rishabh during a conversation on Cricbuzz.

He said, “The biggest question for me is whether Rishabh Pant can bat at number three in the World Cup team. I feel that he does not fit in the middle order and if he can do this then Pant will be one step closer to selection.”

The cricketer turned commentator further said that “Rishabh is a better player than any slugger or hitter. He comes to the crease and makes the path of his innings easier. That's why I say that he is a great player and an excellent batsman. However, I don't think he is a player who starts playing shots as soon as he comes on the field. My biggest question is whether Rishabh Pant can bat at number three after captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Let us tell you that his comment came at a time when Pant had played an unbeaten inning of 88 runs on 43 balls. During this, 5 fours and 8 sixes came from his bat. He played this inning at a time when DC had lost 3 wickets for 44 runs. After this the captain himself took the responsibility and he took some time in the beginning. Only after this, the 26-year-old scored fast runs in the last few overs and took his team to a huge score of 224 runs.
