Former India pacer Varun Aaron heaped massive praise on Shubman Gill, saying that the 25-year-old has been impressive as a captain in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. There were question marks over Gill’s batting and leadership qualities following the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from red-ball cricket. However, Gill has responded with his bat, leading from the front.

The right-handed batter has crossed the 700-run mark, with the help of four hundreds and a best score of 269.

Aaron pointed out how captaincy takes a toll on the Indian players, praising Gill for making his performance count. He gave Virat Kohli’s example, who made a revelation that he now dyes his beard.

“That is what happens to the Indian captains. They come with a full bunch of black hair and leave with a lot of salt and pepper. Some of them have to dye their beards as well,” he said.

Aaron mentioned that the England series will define Gill’s legacy as captain. “Shubman Gill has come full circle. He is the Test captain and has scored more than 700 runs. Any words would not be enough to describe his batting. This series is going to define him as a captain,” he added.
