Former cricketer Parthiv Patel believes that Mohammed Siraj has played an important role in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
The 31-year-old has made major contributions to the Men in Blues with the ball against England. He is the joint-highest wicket-taker for the side alongside Jasprit Bumrah with 14 scalps under his belt.
Mohammed Siraj has been part of all four test matches and will most likely be featuring in the fifth test as well. Seeing his impressive performances with the ball, former India cricketer Parthiv Patel feels that the pacer is taken for granted and also saying that his contributions often get overlooked.
“We tend to take Mohammed Siraj for granted. The effort he puts in, the intensity, and the smile he wears — no matter the match situation — that’s commendable,” said Parthiv Patel.
The Hyderabad pacer has quietly turned into one of India’s most dependable bowlers across formats and his commitment to maintaining pace and aggression even during difficult spells has not gone unnoticed.
Despite his average did not show up dominance, he did break some crucial partnerships and bowl with energy across long spells has helped India stay alive in the tournament.
On the other hand, Bumrah’s workload comes under scrutiny, Siraj has been expected to step up more than usual, and he has embraced that responsibility.
According to reports, Jasprit Bumrah is set to be rested for The Oval test, putting the spotlight once again on Siraj, who is expected to lead the Indian pace attack.
With no official word on Bumrah’s availability, Parthiv Patel hopes for his fourth outing in the series at The Oval.
“We’re all aware of how carefully his workload is being managed. It was announced at the press conference that he would play only three Tests, so there are a lot of factors to consider — recovery, fitness, workload. But I would personally want to see him play the final one. Hopefully, the support staff travelling with the team can help him recover in time,” said Parthiv.
India needs a win to draw the series and share the trophy. England leads the 2-1 series and will be aiming for a win to secure the series.
The fifth match of the series will be played between July 31 and August 04 at The Kia OvalLondon.
