Kuldeep Yadav, who has represented India in 13 Test matches, boasts an impressive record of 56 wickets at an average of 22.16. He has taken 21 wickets across six Tests against England.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has stated that pacer Jasprit Bumrah should be part of the playing XI for the fifth Test against England. The fourth Test ended in a draw, leaving the series 2-1 in England’s favour, with the fifth and final Test set to begin on Thursday, July 31, at The Oval.
Initially, Bumrah was scheduled to play only three of the five matches to manage his workload, which he has already done. However, Pathan believes that if Bumrah is part of the squad, he should be available for all matches.
“Given that it’s the fifth Test and the bowlers from both teams will be fatigued with little rest, India must strategise carefully. The tiredness is inevitable. This is also why Bumrah isn’t playing, whether due to injury management or other reasons. However, I don’t agree with that decision. I still believe that if you’re selected, you should be ready to play in every match,” he said.
“The real question is whether they can find a way to include Kuldeep Yadav. It’s a tough decision. Our bowlers are exhausted. Siraj is tired, and Bumrah has his injury management issue. What India needs is a wicket-taking bowler. I’m not claiming Kuldeep will definitely take wickets, as there’s no certainty. However, since the match is at The Oval, where spinners can get some bounce, could they consider playing him? Is there a combination that could make room for him?” he added.
